We started playing a little game in public where we would try to have a “first impression” moment with each other, you know, where we would imagine we were seeing each other for the first time. This date night is an expansion of that idea, creating a whole new “first time we met” story! With a little bit of creativity, you can experience your relationship from the very beginning, all over again!
Here are some suggestions for how to ignite that lover’s spark for the “first” time – all over again!
Go on a blind date! Get ready separately, then have your man drive around the block once and come to the door for you (Hint: …hey guys, flowers may be a nice touch here! WINK). Introduce yourselves to each other and ask all the questions you would to someone you just met. Oh, and talking about your kids, bills, or that rattle in your car are off limits! (Another fun variation of this is to leave a “Secret Admirer” note for them – on their windshield, on their desk at work, in the mailbox… Then leave details of a date you are requesting to reveal your “secret” identity!) Dust off those old pick up lines! Remember when you racked your brain trying to think of the perfect thing to say – some clever line to reel that hot guy/girl in? Why does that have to stop now that you’ve committed forever to that person? Who better to impress with your clever quip about how (insert adoring adjective) they are?! Head to a local hot spot and find each other in the crowd. The catch is, you have to work up the nerve to approach him/her and use your best line! Good luck! Play the part! For those of you who are feeling a little more adventurous, try out your acting skills! Maybe you’re usually more compliant but want to try being in charge – so you approach your sweetie, make the suggestions for how to spend the evening, and ask him/her for another date at the end of the night. Perhaps you have a 9-5 desk job but always wanted to be a flight attendant. You only have one night in town and you’re looking to have dinner with someone who is equally interesting and easy on the eyes! Make it up as you go – both you and your spouse will have fun getting to know this new character!
